September 30, 1934 – September 11, 2021
The family of Susan Ray Sigmund Weidenhammer are saddened by the loss of their loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on September 11, 2021.
Susan was born September 30, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Edwin Franklin Sigmund and Laura Lachman Sigmund. Growing up, her father had a drug store in Paola, PA and they later lived in King of Prussia, PA.
She met the love of her life, George J. Weidenhammer, at a dance class at the age of 12 and told her best friend that she had met the man she would marry that night. Susan was quite the seamstress, designing numerous elegant prom and dance outfits that she and George wore throughout their dating years. After high school, Susan went to Centenary Junior College and graduated in 1953 with an associate degree in fashion design. Sewing and quilting continued to be a passion of hers throughout her life.
George and Susan married in 1955, and as the wife of a chemical engineer, lived in numerous cities and states around the United States. They were able to take amazing trips throughout America, Europe, and Asia. After retiring, Sue and George loved to tour around in their 1924 model T Ford, cruise the Caribbean and Alaskan Seas and, in fact, they just loved to do anything together.
Susan was a person of style and beauty. She took great pride in caring for her family, creating the feeling of home no matter where they lived. Susan was preceded in death by George, her husband of 57 years; daughters, Wendy Lynn Weidenhammer, Linda Ann Weidenhammer, and Lori Erwin; granddaughter, Kara Lee Weidenhammer; grandson, Khalid Weidenhammer Azeddagh; and her sweet great-granddaughter, Zoe Elizabeth Killiany. Zoe never failed to put a smile on her Gigi’s face!
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 23 at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC. Interment will be at the Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frasier, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to The American Diabetes Association.
Please share online condolences with the family, here, in the guestbook.
