It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Thomas Edward Wood, who departed this world on January 23, 2024.
Thomas Edward Wood Sr. was born on February 7th, 1939, in Missouri, to the late Riley Paul Wood and Jewel Mae Smith Wood. He lived a life that spanned many decades, filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments. He was a pillar of strength for those fortunate enough to know him, and his departure leaves a void that can never be filled.
In the journey of life, Thomas faced both triumphs and challenges, navigating each with grace and resilience. At age 17, Thomas joined the Navy and then moved to Winston Salem, where he met his sweetheart and wife of 50+ years, Doretha (Dee) Anne Wood. After seeing the world during his time in the Navy, Tom began his lifelong career as a Structural Steel Estimator. Throughout his career Thomas and Dee welcomed two children and found their forever home in Carolina Beach, NC. Throughout his years he loved to laugh and have fun with friends, dance with “his bride”, nurture his creative pursuits with drawing and wood-working, take care of his family, and continue to work and take care of his home well into his eighties.
Throughout his life, Thomas experienced the joy of witnessing the growth of his family. He is survived by his son, Thomas Edward Wood Jr. and daughter-in-law, Dawn Wood; six grandchildren, Victoria Duggan, Caitlin Duggan, David Carriker, Erin Burnsed, Abigail Wood, and Dale Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Kloie Duggan, Annabelle Burnsed, Lillah Burnsed, Oliver Burnsed, Elizabeth Hinckley, Martin Hinckley, and Rosemary Towne; devoted sister, Katrina Kelly, and brother-in-law, Paul Kelly. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doretha Ann Wood; sister, Paula Ann Reich; daughter, Elizabeth Karoline Wood Duggan; and grandson, Lucas Trory Duggan. His memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The service to celebrate the life of Thomas will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Rd., Wilmington, N.C. 28412. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and support during this difficult time.
