Tom Finley, Jr.

Henry Thomas Finley, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2022, surrounded by his family at the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospice. Tom was born December 16, 1931, in Nashville, TN, the son of the late Henry Thomas Finley, Sr., and Louise Carter Finley. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Honeycutt Finley and sister, Lucia Grimes. Tom grew up in Nashville, TN, and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Tom is survived by his wife, Carolyn Inman Finley, daughter Lisa (Kevin) Deese, son, Tom Finley, III of Charlotte, NC, step daughter, Lesa (Geoff) Broadhead of Wilmington, NC, and step grandson, Ian Broadhead of Richmond, VA.  Special cousins include Kay Reynolds, Nancy Isaac, Mary Lou Walden, and Gailya Barker, and his caregiver, Janelle Liverman.

Tom was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, NC. He was ordained as a Deacon in prior Presbyterian Churches in Charlotte and Laurinburg, NC, and was an adult Sunday School teacher for over 15 years.

Tom’s business career spanned 60 years as an Independent Insurance Agent and Agency Principal. He was also active in professional associations relating to the insurance industry. 

Tom had an active civic club service as President of the Charlotte Jaycees, Charlotte Civitan Club, and Charlotte Chapter Heart Association. He was also a member of the Charlotte Planning Commission. Tom was a member and founder of the Scotland County Arts Council, and a member of the Laurinburg Rotary and Raleigh Rotary Club. As an avid golfer, he was a member of the Pinehurst Country Club and Country Club of Landfall.

A service to honor and remember his life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Third Street, Wilmington, NC, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Third Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, or Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
