

Our loving husband, father and brother, William Hardy Blalock, passed away on July 21, 2015 at the age of 89. Bill was born in Kinston, NC on March 3, 1926. He grew up in Reidsville, NC and moved on to live in Pennsylvania, Kansas and Maryland before returning to North Carolina. For the past 36 years, he has made his home in Wilmington, NC. Bill is survived by his wife, Ida Cherry Blalock, children June Blalock (Bob Jambou), William H. Blalock, Jr. (Clara) and Vicki Hite (David), and sister Frances "Plum" Alston Trent. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris Blalock (Dani) and Philip Blalock (Sara), and great grandsons Jakob Lanning and Carter Blalock. Bill and Ida were happily married for 67 years. Bill served in the Navy during World War II and received his Chemical Engineering degree from NC State in 1951. He has worked for various corporations, finishing his career with National Starch and Chemical Corporation in Leland, NC. Bill was very dedicated to church and community activities. He was a member of St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian church where he taught Sunday school, served as an Elder on various committees over the years and kept the seniors group (Keenagers) busy with bridge and other activities. Each time someone from the church had a new baby, he would deliver a single rose to the new parents. Bill volunteered at the International Seamen's Center at the State Port for 31 years and helped with Meals on Wheels. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2015 at St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Andrews Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the International Seamen's Center or Habitat for Humanity.
