

William Horace Corbett II of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 27 at his home at the age of 68. He was born March 15, 1944 in Wilmington the son of the late William Horace and Valera Murray Corbett. Billy was a partner in Corbett Package Company and served as an Officer of Corbett Farming Company, Incorporated. He was active in the farming operations for more than 30 years. He was a member of the North Carolina Sweet Potato Council serving one term as its president . He played a major role in North Carolina becoming the leading sweet potato producing state in the nation. He also served on the Board of Directors of other family associated businesses including Marvil Package Company, Corbett Plywood Company, and Corbett Lumber Corporation. He had a great love for Airlie Gardens, which was owned and operated by Corbett Package Company prior to its acquisition by New Hanover County in 1999. Billy is survived by his wife, Vivian Tart Corbett; two daughters Kendall Corbett Cobb and her husband Chris of Louisburg, North Carolina, Cissy Williamson Bethune of Wilmington, North Carolina; a son Gregory Brammer and wife Christy of Floyd, Virginia. Sisters include Sandra Corbett Hiatt and her husband Larry, Barbara Corbett Olsen; brothers Edward Murray Corbett, James Walter Corbett, all from Wilmington. The grandchildren are Corbett Thomas and Mary Vivian Cobb, Will and Page Bethune, and Brandon Brammer. Also surviving are his aunts Elsie Corbett Hatch and Joanne King Corbett of Wilmington, North Carolina and one uncle, Milton Murray of Dunn, NC. Visitation will be at the home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at the Black River Hunting Camp on Thursday, May 31st at 11:30 AM. Donations, in memory of Billy, may be made to the charity of your choice.
