

William Harrison Shelton, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 5, 2024. Born on August 27, 1932, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara (Bugbee) Shelton; his siblings, Sharon (Shelton) Lacefield, Virginia (Tolley) West, George Shelton, and Jack Shelton; and his son-in-law, Samuel Scott.
Known affectionately as Bill, he is survived by his children, Shirley Shelton Scott and Steven Shelton, along with Steven’s wife, Siobhain (Caulfield) Shelton. Bill also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Liam and Linnane Shelton, as well as his devoted long-term caretaker, Victoria Brown.
Bill proudly served as an Air Force Major during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Strategic Air Command, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service. After retiring from the military, he worked as an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service before starting his own private practice in Biloxi, MS.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed gardening and playing golf. He was known for his good nature, kind heart, generosity, and quick wit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, October 12, in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Clay, Kentucky, where friends and family are warmly invited to gather and honor his memory.
