William "Steve" S. Thornton, 62, of Sneads Ferry, NC passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at his residence. Born May 16, 1953 in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late William and Ruby Sanders Thornton. William was a graduate of Albright College and was a member of the U.S. National Team in Wrestling. He was successful as a real estate broker for many years. In his leisure, he enjoyed jet skiing, camping in the motorhome, fishing and fall sports. He spent 20 years in Colorado prior to coming to the area. There he enjoyed snow skiing and hiking. Additionally, he was an animal lover. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandra Thornton; a son, Steven K. Thornton of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ; a grandson, Blaine Steven Thornton; a dear friends, Al Patane, Ray Borda and Dave Dunn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, October 16, 2015 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel, 17730 US-17, Hampstead, NC 28443.
