After successfully retiring from the NCDOT in 2003, Don returned to work for Jerry T. Bunn Trucking and Wilson County Solid Waste of Sims for the last 15 years. He enjoyed talking with all of his coworkers and meeting new people. Don spent most of his free time being a devoted family man to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He looked forward to his Saturday mornings visits with his brother, Ralph (Slick) to share a Diet Coke and talk about sports. Don was a long-time fan of the New York Yankees, Washington Redskins and the Duke Blue Devils. He was also a fan of country music. He and his wife, Elsie, enjoyed traveling the East Coast to attend many concerts over the past 45 years.
Surviving are his daughter, Melody Jones of Wilson; son, Johnny Jones (Paula) of Sims; brother Ralph Sullivan (Marie) of Bailey; his grandchildren Larissa, Heather, Ashley, Lindsey and Brandon; great-grandchildren Adynn, Claudia, Jaxson, Emery and Timothy; and several other loving family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Allen Sullivan; son, Tim Jones; sisters, Barbara Ann Tyndall, Lois Bradshaw and Agnes Wilson; brother, SL Fulghum, Jr.; and his beloved dog, Tiger.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Johnny Sullivan will officiate. Interment will be private in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson, NC.
