

She is survived by her daughters; Hilda Whitfield Petty, Sandra Whitfield Mincey (Wesley), and Gail Whitfield Sexton (Coy), one brother; Roland Lucas, six grandchildren; Jamie Lamm, Shannon Lamm, Kansas Ferrell, Cristy Garner, Craig Coley and Adam Sexton, and nine great-grandchildren; Megan Irons, Matthew Lamm, Andrew Lamm, Madison Lamm, Will Ferrell, Alex Garner, Brianna Coley, Radley Sexton, and Livia Sexton.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; Frank Lucas and Lena Daniel Lucas, her husband and love of her life Norwood Ray Whitfield, five brothers; Clayton Lucas, Lee Robert Lucas, Frank Lucas Jr., Earl Lucas, and Dorsey Lucas, and two sisters; Daisy Lucas Barnes and Pearl Lucas.
Gladys was a faithful servant of the Lord. She enjoyed the simple act of caring for others. She would devote her time to helping anyone, including cooking a warm meal for them or giving them a ride to church. She was a wonderful inspiration and always offered encouragement to her children. She will always be remembered for her wonderful Sunday dinners that were served after church, sewing and making quilts. Family was the foundation of Gladys’ life, and she will always be remembered as a genuine, kind caring spirit who was a true servant of the Lord. She will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 1-2pm at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home in Wilson. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at 2:00 at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home in Wilson, with interment immediately following at Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson.
