

Jack L. Burnett, Jr. ,81, died Monday at his home in Athens, Georgia. He served 24 years of active duty in the military and 4 years in the Army Reserve. He and his wife resided in Asheboro, North Carolina for 27 years after retiring from military service.
He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Jack L Burnett, Sr. and Mabel Burnett who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Emma Overman Burnett, three sons; Richard (Richie) Burnett and wife Sara of Athens, Georgia, Mark Burnett and wife Katie of Athens, Georgia, Jody Burnett and wife Kristi of Emerson, Georgia, four grandchildren; Nathan and Ben Burnett of Athens, Georgia, Caroline and Jamison Burnett of Granby, Connecticut, brothers; Bill and wife Barbara of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Sam and wife Debbie of Hilton Head, South Carolina, sisters; Nancy Cleland and Lou Burnett of Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10:00-10:45 AM at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Dr. Keith Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
