Jessie Lou Bennett White, 101, of Saratoga, left the physical world and joined her Lord and Savior in her Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Saratoga OFWB Church, Saratoga, NC, with Pastor Lewis Forsythe officiating. Interment will follow in Stantonsburg Cemetery, Stantonsburg, NC.
The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., at the church located at 6801 NC Hwy 222 E, Saratoga, NC.
Jessie Lou was a life-long member of Saratoga OFWB Church. Jessie Lou lived her faith. She was quoted as saying “It is my faith in God that keeps me moving each day and giving to others. I pray a lot. I think that is the key, at least it is for me.” Jessie Lou was a member of “The Greatest Generation.” She lived her entire life in both Wayne and Wilson counties. After her mother’s death at an early age, Jessie Lou, the oldest child, helped her father raise her siblings. Jessie Lou was known as “Sister” to her siblings and “Aunt Sister” to her nieces and nephews. She owned her own beauty shop, Lou’s Beauty Shop, in Saratoga and was known for being a wonderful cook and baker. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra White Huskamp of Greenville and Faithe Van Hook of Saratoga; five grandchildren, Gordon White, Elliot White, Jessica Smith, Danielle Van Hook, and James Wesley Van Hook; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother Archie Bennett (Dorothy) of Kinston; one sister, Jean Bennett Hamm (Edgar) of Wilson; and four step-grandchildren, Justin Huskamp, Brian Huskamp, Kim Laurent, and Barbara Dickens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Herbert White; her son, James Bennett White; her parents, Jesse E. and Mamie Howell Bennett; seven sisters, Hazelle Bennett Bissette, Joyce Bennett Baker, Ruth Bennett, Virginia Bennett, Dorothy Bennett, Eula Bennett, and Beaula Bennett; one brother, Dorcie Bennett; one granddaughter, Katie Phillips; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Huskamp.
