WILLIAM G. “BILLY” BATTS Billy Batts, 62, of Elm City, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center. Billy, manager of Mayer Farm Equipment in Sharpsburg, loved his family, his garden, his horses, and John Deere tractors. He enjoyed watching things grow at the family homeplace where he lived, sharing the vegetables her grew and teaching others how to garden. He took special delight in watching his young grandchildren play. They already miss their “Poppy”. Billy was the beloved husband of Melissa Bissette Batts of the home. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Will and Felicia Batts of Nashville; grandchildren, Emma Grace and Liam Batts; his mother, Ollie Mae Gardner Batts of Elm City; and brother and sister-in-law, Reggie and Lias Batts of Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Raye; his father, Harvey Talmadge “Tab” Batts; and brother, Walter Batts. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2708 Nash St., Wilson.
