He was a beloved Orthopedic Surgeon who served Atlanta, Barrow and surrounding areas. Dr. Hamway always believed patients should have a pleasant experience. His fun and outgoing manner was contagious to all.
Douglas was born in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Poly Prep Day school in his early years. He studied to become a physician and completed his residency and rotations for Orthopedic Surgery at Hamot Medical in Erie, Pennsylvania and rotations at Duke University in Durham, NC., Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital and St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Douglas is survived by his wife , Margaret Ann Hamway, of 34 years, his adored dogs, Bear and Junior. Also remaining are his brother, Theodore Hamway, DDS: sister-in-laws Genevieve Hamway, Barbie Brown, Stephen Molyneaux; niece, Josette Margaret Brown; nephew, William Tyler Hill; cousins, Gerry Katen with family from New Jersey and John Helal, M.D. with family from San Paulo, Brazil.
A graveside service to honor the life of Dr. Hamway will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at the Decatur Cemetery. Burial will follow the graveside service. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
