Edward “Ed” Owens, 87 of Commerce, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026. He was a native of Walton County. Ed was a member of Maysville Baptist Church and loved to sing and praise his Lord. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired as a store manager for Golden Pantry. Ed loved the mountains and often visited Hiawassee and Helen whenever he got the chance.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Rayburn and Betty Parker Owens; his wife, Cheryl Owens; and a brother, David Owens. He is survived by his son, Charles “Chuck” Owens (Angela) of Commerce; his daughter, Dorothy Hart of Maysville; and a sister, Amy Owens of Monroe. Six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.
A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home at 2PM Friday, May 29, 2026. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12pm until service time.
