

James Nathan White passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. Nathan was born on May 12, 1941, to James Donald and Kathleen Hobgood White. He lived his early days in Winder and graduated from Winder Barrow High School in 1960. Nathan attended Reinhardt College and Athens Technical School before joining the U.S. Navy in August 1964. He was based in San Diego, California, for the next 4½ years, where he had 3 tours of duty on the aircraft carrier, USS Constellation, off the coast of South Vietnam where he maintained the radar systems on the E2-A Hawkeye surveillance plane.
After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Georgia in February of 1969 and began work for Georgia Power as an electronic technician. He spent his career with Georgia Power at Plant Jack McDonough in Smyrna. Nathan settled in Riverdale where he lived until 2021. Due to deteriorating health, he came back to Winder to live out his days on earth. Nathan was a sweet, gentle soul who was always willing to help his family and fellow man. His family knew him affectionately as “Bud” or “Uncle Bud”.
Nathan was an active Amateur Radio Emergency Services (Ham) volunteer - call sign KA4KRN. He was always fascinated by trains and spent many hours watching and traveling on them. He enjoyed his membership in the Ferroequinologist (Iron Horse) Chapter in Cobb County.
Nathan is predeceased by his parents, J.D. and Kathleen White, and his brother, Ivan White. He is survived by sisters: Kathy White of Winder and Janis White McMillan of Milledgeville; nephews: Scott (Tami) White of Hoschton, GA, Don (JoAnn) White of Travelers Rest, SC, Russ (Adrianne) White of Knoxville, TN, and Sean (Patti) McMillan of Venice, FL; great nephew, Jackson White; and great nieces: Ava White, Hannah White and Rebeckah White (Steph) Harvey.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 16, from 12-2 pm with services following at 2 pm at Smith Memory Chapel. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Wreaths Across America for GABMGW - Barrow Memorial Gardens through Sunbury Chapter, NSDAR, Winder, to honor him and the other Veterans buried there.
