

Jesse Denvil Sweet, Jr., age 72, passed away on January 1, 2023. Originally from Corbin, Kentucky, he had lived in Georgia since 2005. He was of the Baptist faith and lived his life being kind to everyone he met. Jesse was a Veteran who served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam and served as Commander of the Athens VFW. He was a proud father and PopPop who dearly loved his family, music, and the Georgia Bulldogs – Go Dawgs! He was a hard worker and continued working until retirement in 2019.
Jesse is survived by his loving wife, Connie Sweet; his daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Kent; five grandchildren: Neena Kao, Reginald McLee III, Tanner Kao, Mariah Kao, and Levi Kent; and one great-grandchild, Emma Kao. He is also survived by two brothers: Mark Sweet and David Sweet; and three sisters: Libby Atkinson, Charmin Ooten, and Kathy Wynn.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm. Immediately following the visitation will be a Funeral Service in Smith Memory Chapel.
