Manuel Javier Pinzon

Manuel Javier Pinzón, age 77—just days away from turning 78—passed away on May 28, 2025, in a tragic accident in the woods behind his home in Dacula, Georgia, while bravely protecting his eight year old twin granddaughters and his sister.

Born on June 8, 1947, in Riosucio, Caldas, Colombia, Manuel built a distinguished career as a lawyer and entrepreneur. In 1999, he and his wife, Beatriz Arias, fled the violence of the FARC and built a new life in Georgia, where Manuel devoted the next three decades to faith, family, and community. Manuel had many talents: a sharp legal mind, poet, writer, ingenious businessman, and the family “fix-it-all,” capable of repairing everything from broken toys to fences. But his greatest joys were found outdoors - especially in the forests of Georgia - and he often spoke of his dream to one day hike the Appalachian Trail. Friends remember him for his boundless generosity, quiet bravery, and endless curiosity for the wonders of nature. He was spontaneous, had a heart of gold for everyone around him, a jokester, and full of God’s love.

He is survived by his wife, Beatriz, with whom he was about to celebrate 50 years of marriage; his daughters, Andrea Pinzón Krause and Manuela Pinzón; his sons-in-law, Jason Krause and José Sosa; his grandchildren: Valentina Cifuentes, Nicolás Krause, Gabriela Krause, Isabela Krause, and Lucas Cifuentes; his brothers, Bernardo Pinzón and Carlos Alberto Pinzón; and his sisters: Gloria Amparo Pinzón, Inés Cecilia Tabares, Beatriz Eugenia Jordan, and María Piedad Pinzón. Manuel was like a second father to his nephews Manuel David Pinzón and Santiago López. He was also like a brother to his sister-in-law Gloria Arias, and an additional grandfather to Jacobo López and Sofía Garofalo - who passed away fifteen days before his own death.

I want to share these simple words that my father wrote in recent days that moved our hearts:

“It is difficult to put into words something that can turn our tears of sorrow into tears of joy. Let us begin

by saying, along with Moses in the Book of Ecclesiastes: ‘The Lord is my strength and my power, He is my salvation. He is my God: I will praise Him; the God of my fathers: I will exalt Him.’

Psalm 89

You turn man back to dust, saying, ‘Return, children of Adam.’ A thousand years in your sight are like yesterday, come and gone, or a watch in the night.

Words that move our hearts as truth brought forth by a God of love. In Him we find our strength.”

There will be a Memorial Service in Smith Memory Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. The Funeral Service will follow at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Mission, 4603 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lilburn, GA 30047, beginning at 4:45 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend both gatherings to honor and celebrate Manuel’s legacy of bravery, kindness, and unwavering love. Please do not wear black colored clothing.

Manuel Javier Pinzón, de 77 años —a pocos días de cumplir 78—, falleció el 28 de mayo de 2025 en un trágico accidente en el bosque detrás de su hogar en Dacula, Georgia, mientras protegía valerosamente a sus nietas gemelas de ocho años y a su hermana.

Nacido el 8 de junio de 1947 en Riosucio, Caldas, Colombia, Manuel forjó una distinguida carrera como abogado y empresario. En 1999, él y su esposa, Beatriz Arias, huyeron de la violencia de las FARC y construyeron una nueva vida en Georgia, donde Manuel dedicó las siguientes tres décadas a la fe, la familia y la comunidad.

Los talentos de Manuel eran muchos: mente jurídica aguda, poeta, escritor, empresario ingenioso y el “todero” familiar, capaz de arreglar desde juguetes rotos hasta cercas. Sin embargo, sus mayores alegrías las encontraba al aire libre —especialmente en los bosques de Georgia—, y con frecuencia hablaba de su sueño de recorrer el Sendero de los Apalaches algún día. Sus amigos lo recuerdan por su generosidad sin límites, su valentía serena y su curiosidad inagotable por las maravillas de la naturaleza. Manuel era un hombre espontáneo, con un corazón de oro para todos los que lo rodeaban, bromista y lleno del amor de Dios.

Le sobrevive su esposa, Beatriz, con quien estaba a punto de celebrar 50 años de matrimonio; sus hijas Andrea Pinzón Krause y Manuela Pinzón; sus yernos Jason Krause y José Sosa; sus nietos Valentina Cifuentes, Nicolás Krause, Gabriela Krause, Isabela Krause y Lucas Cifuentes; sus hermanos Bernardo Pinzón y Carlos Alberto Pinzón; sus hermanas Gloria Amparo Pinzón, Inés Cecilia Tabares, Beatriz Eugenia Jordan y María Piedad Pinzón.

Manuel fue otro padre para sus sobrinos Manuel David Pinzón y Santiago López. También fue como otro hermano para su cuñada Gloria Arias, y un abuelo más para Jacobo López y Sofía Garofalo —quien falleció quince días antes de su muerte—.

Conmovidos en nuestros corazones, quiero compartir estas sencillas palabras que en estos días dejó escritas mi papá:

“Es difícil expresar en palabras algo que transforme nuestras lágrimas de dolor en lágrimas de alegría. Empecemos diciendo, con Moisés en el libro del Eclesiástico: ‘Mi fuerza y mi poder es el Señor, Él es mi salvación. Él es mi Dios: yo lo alabaré; el Dios de mis padres: yo lo ensalzaré.’

Tú reduces el hombre a polvo, diciendo: ‘Retornad, hijos de Adán’. Mil años en tu presencia son un ayer que pasó; una vela nocturna.

Palabras que conmueven nuestros corazones como verdad generada por un Dios de amor. En Él encontramos la fortaleza.”

La Cremación y la Celebración de Vida se llevará a cabo en Smith Memory Chapel localizado en 755 Atlanta Hwy, SE, Winder GA el martes 3 de junio del 2025 a las 2:00 pm. Seguido de la Santa Misa la cual se celebrará en la Misión Católica de Nuestra Señora de las Américas localizada 4603 Lawrenceville Hwy, Lilburn, GA 30047 el martes 3 de junio de 2025, a las 4:45 p.m. Familiares y amigos están invitados a reunirse en estos dos eventos para compartir recuerdos y honrar el legado de valentía, bondad y amor inquebrantable de Manuel. Se les pide a los amigos y familiares que no se vistan de negro.

Asi mismo, la familia invita a honrar la memoria de Manuel con los gestos sencillos que él atesoraba: salir a caminar por la naturaleza con un ser querido, tender la mano a un vecino o detenerse un momento para contemplar un

amanecer.
