Mrs. Mary Frances Maxwell

Mary Frances Maxwell, age 96 of Winder, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Winder. A native of Walton County she graduated from Monroe High School. Mary Frances worked many years as a legal secretary and later in life entered the banking business, working for Bank of Barrow and retiring from Bank South as a banking officer. She formerly was an active member of various civic clubs and charities, including being Worthy Matron of The Order of Eastern Star, President of The P.T.A., Secretary of The Winder Women’s Club and Treasurer of The Cancer Society for seven years. She also was a former Girl Scout leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Hester Rowden Armstrong, her husband, Charles Floyd “Shug” Maxwell and a grandson, Andy Pentecost. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Maxwell Cassidy of Winder; a grandson, Maxwell Pentecost (Wanda) of Winder and two great-grandchildren, Britt and Max Pentecost. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00PM at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until service time.
