Ollie Mae Lackey, age 69 of Winder, passed away on May 24, 2024. She was born in Portsmouth, OH to the late George and Pauline Lucas. She grew up in Newport News, VA, where she was loved and cared for by her late parents, Fred and Nellie Little. She was a graduate of Newport News High School and went on to work various jobs throughout her life. She retired from Kemp Enterprises out of Highpoint, NC, where she learned all about the furniture market and developed a love for designing furniture. Ollie loved the Lord and was a member of the Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church in North Carolina, where she sang in the choir, until she retired and moved to Georgia to be closer to her family. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16 and Matthew 17:20. Ollie was the owner-operator of Star Nutrition of Bethlehem. She loved going to work and getting to visit with her customers, and serving her community. Her grandgirls were so very special to her and she loved them dearly. And of course we can't forget about her love for her fur baby, Gracie.
Ollie is survived by her husband of 40 years, William "Doug" Lackey; her daughter, Jennifer (Cory) Waldrop of Bishop; grandchildren: Olivia Waldrop and Allie Waldrop; brother, Andy Lucas of Quincy, KY; and sisters: Cora Lee Hoff of Toledo, OH, and Georgia Bloise of Susanville, CA.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, on Thursday, May 30 from noon until 2:00 pm. A Celebration of LIfe will follow at 2:00 pm in Smith Memory Chapel. Because of her love of dogs, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Leftover Pets of Winder at https://leftoverpets.org/donate.
