Theresa Royer

Theresa Royer née Seaman (also known as Nurse Theresa, Tewo, Nurse Royer and Sister Nurse) was born on the 10th of October 1943 in the Village of Vieille Case in the Caribbean Island of Dominica. She was the third child of Stanislaus Seaman and his wife Agathine nee Royer. She had an early education at the Vieille Case Government School and in the late 1960s trained in nursing at the Holberton Hospital Nursing School in Antigua. She returned to Dominica after her training and worked at the Portsmouth Hospital and various Health Centres in the north of Dominica where she served as a District Nurse.

Theresa married Tyril Royer, now deceased, in 1975 and bore two children Lisa Higgs née Royer and Troy Royer. In addition to her children, she is survived by her four grandchildren: Nasi Royer, D’Mari, D’Laniee and D’Mia Higgs; her daughter-n-law, Erin Royer; five brothers: Gaetan, Anselm, Sylvester, Cletus, and Michael; and four sisters: Joan, Eugenia, Julie, and Martha. She loved her greater family very much and she never forgot a birthday or anniversary.

She was a very committed professional, well loved in all districts she served, and a dedicated member of the Dominica Nurses Association. She never missed a meeting! Theresa was also a faithful member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies and she was always accessible to everyone. She was a no-nonsense person and spoke her mind whether you liked it or not. Her favorite phrase was “Those without knowledge shall perish”. She made very enduring friends among the people she served especially the people of Penville where she worked many years.

Her illness manifested several years ago while living in Florida with her daughter Lisa who took very good care of her for many years. Theresa died peacefully at the home of her son Troy Royer who lovingly took care of her till the end. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.

A Wake for Theresa will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Smith Memory Chapel. Her Burial will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens, 793 Atlanta Highway SE, Winder, Georgia.
