Werna Vanderford

Werna Vanderford, age 84 of Winder, passed away on January 10, 2026. She was born on August 8, 1941, to the late Lewis and Cora Barnett. Werna was a 1959 graduate of Winder Barrow High School and had a long career as Judge Mark Dunahoo's Secretary for Circuit Court. In 1981, she and her husband started operating their first chicken houses. They were members of the Poultry Association and longtime members of Georgia Farm Bureau. Werna was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Werna was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vanderford; and her siblings: Roger Barnett and Joyce Mobley. She is survived by her sons, Chuck (Tammy) Vanderford of Johnston, SC, and Joe Vanderford of Auburn. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Mason Vanderford, Landen Vanderford, Carly Vanderford, and Rhett Vanderford; and one great-grandchild, Cove Vanderford.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held at Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from noon until 2:00 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm in Smith Memory Chapel and the burial will be at Barrow Memorial Gardens.
