Barbara Root

ROOT, Barbara Ann July 30, 1931 – June 8, 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Root just shy of her 90th birthday. Predeceased by the love of her life, husband Donald (1978). Loving mother of David and Sandra Root and Janet and Bill Benson. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Kyle Root, Patrick (Michelle) Benson, Holly (Arthur) Strauss and Brett Benson. Barbara was a proud great-grandmother to Kiel and Kevin Root, Addison and Peyton Strauss. She was a devout member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and more recently, Paulin Memorial Church. Mom was a tireless volunteer over the years and devoted countless hours to such organizations as Grace Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Huron Lodge, Air Force Club of Windsor and the Laura K. Pelton Missionary Society. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed a hot cup of tea and curling up with a good romance novel. Special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Heron Terrace where mom has begrudgingly resided for the past 3 years. In kindness, donations in Barbara’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A private family service will take place at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre followed by interment at Victoria Memorial Gardens.

I would like to send my condolences to Barbs family and friends. My name is Maxine and I was a PSW student when I met Barb and we became close. She used to love sitting outside on a sunny day and we would talk and she would share her memories of growing up. She was a Beautiful soul and I'll never forget her. Sending love to you above Barb.

David and Janet,
On behalf of the Radford family, I would like to send our condolences. Your mom and my mom were such good friends! My brother John (now in his fifties) could not pronounce your mom’s name correctly when he was a toddler and your mom was forever after known as “Baba Woot” in our household.
“Mom- Baba Woot called! She will pick you up for lunch...”
She was such a lovely lady and a favourite in our household. I hope they get together for more adventures. ❤️

As the former Chaplain at Heron Terrace Long-Term Care Community, it was my privilege to spend time with Barbara, sharing in meaningful conversations. Barbara welcomed me warmly into her room and I will always remember the prayers that she insisted we share at the end of each visit. Barbara faithfully attended our weekly Chapel service, the first to arrive so that she could sit in the front row, even though it meant being the last to leave. To her family I extend the assurance of my prayers as you adjust to life without Barbara. May God bless you.
