Our beloved grandmother Betty Rae Cross passed away on May 6, 2021. Betty Rae Totten was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 18, 1920 - she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Totten, a pioneer family in Windsor. Betty celebrated her 100th birthday last year at a lovely party given by June Cross. Betty married Alfred James (Jim) Cross in the early 1940’s during World War II and they raised 2 sons, David and Phillip. The family attended Campbell Baptist Church in Windsor for many years. Both David and Phillip served in the U. S. Navy during the Viet Nam War, Betty was a homemaker known for her cooking, baking and knitting skills — and her back-yard was a testament to her love of gardening where roses, hydrangeas and lilacs flourished. Betty was known for her delicious rhubarb pies which were always perfection and her “famous” homemade chili which she served to family and friends. For over 50 years, Betty belonged to a Bridge Club with her life-long friends from high school. In her 90’s, Betty became a great grandma when her dear great-granddaughter, Madeline Olivia was born — they did not have a chance to meet in person - however, Madeline and Grandma Betty became friends (across many miles) by way of the computer. Our Grandma’s life was one of devotion to her family and friends and she will be forever missed. Betty is survived by her grandson Sean Cross and his wife Levis, grandson Jason Cross, granddaughter Merritt Cross, great granddaughter Madeline Olivia Cross, Claudia Cross, and a dear cousin Helen Todman. Dear and devoted friends Keith and Louise Lozon survive Betty as well as dear friends Keith Tower and Mark and Susan Thomas. It is with great sadness that the family lost June Cross who passed away earlier this year. Other family members who have passed away are Jim Cross, David Cross, Phillip Cross, and Margaret Totten (Betty’s sister). Pastor Bruce Arthur of Campbell Baptist Church officiated at the services in honor of Betty which were held at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor, Ontario on May 15, 2021.
