Left to mourn Jean’s passing are: brothers George E. Davy and J. Arthur Davy (Sheila), children Sharon M. McMahon (Ken), Wendy Girling (Late Sydney J. 2019), Stephan J. Girling (Debbie), six grandchildren and partners, seven great-grandchildren, many cherished nieces and nephews and many extended family in Ontario and the United States, plus special friends near and far.
Over her lifetime, Jean’s talents and interests included bridge, Scrabble, instrumental and choral music, floral design and interior decorating (winning awards for the latter). As a teen, after the early death of her own mother, Jean undertook the care and support of her siblings and father, a duty she lovingly and loyally sustained to the present day. Her soulmate Harry (1994) shared this commitment throughout his life, too. As a young wife, Jean found social purpose as a member and executive of the Order of the Eastern Star and IODE. She fostered the mission of scouting as Rikki for the 9th and 24th Cub Packs for over a decade. For over fifty years she shared a vision of parish community building efforts with her beloved Harry, both undertaking leadership roles at St. Paul’s, St. David’s, St. Andrew’s and St. Barnabas Anglican churches while raising their family. Her joy and passion in later years was as a volunteer with Ouellette Campus, creating and donating beautiful seasonal floral arrangements to raise funds for various initiatives. Jean’s legacy included things and places of beauty, friendship and generosity, unfailing love and care of family and friends and a strong independent streak that accompanied her endurance and optimism. A private family service will be held at Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre, (1969 Wyandotte St. E. 519-252-5711) to commemorate her life.
