It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Bette (nee Ross). She is re-united with the love of her life, Duncan Campbell (1967). Their children, Ross (Tracy), Ian (Barb), Lorne (Nancy), the late Deborah Jeffrey (2007), George Jeffrey, and Shauna Cousineau (Denis) are proud to have been raised by such a feisty and determined woman, and they will miss her immensely. Bette re-married in 1972 to Stan Bauer, becoming friends with and/or helping to finish raise his children, Carol Barker (the late Dick Spezowka, 2013), Doug (Mary Jane), Ruth and Tom (Sandra). “Ma” was deeply loved by her grandchildren Kyle and Adam Campbell, Scott and Ashley Campbell, Meaghan (Jonathan Burge) and Jeremy Cousineau, Nicole and Jessica Jeffrey, and thrilled to be a great-grandma to Richard (Son of Adam and Liz). Through the years, she picked up some tag-along children whom she loved as dearly as her own, namely John and Cathie Leonard and Mary-Jo and Nino Fantauzzo. Bette is survived by her sister Kaye MacLeod and her extended family in Cape Breton, sister-in-law Margaret Fennell and her children Janet (Wayne) Austin Pearson, Nancy (Chris) Austin Appleton, and Eleanor (Doug) Austin Evans and their families. She will also be missed by her many friends in Port Charlotte, Florida. Our mother’s compassion to others was evident in her choice of profession as a Registered Nurse, graduating from Victoria General in Halifax and retiring from Recovery Room at Met. Hospital in 1989. As is evident, Ma loved children dearly and it was her request that, if desired, donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada, 1529 Cedar Ave., Montreal, PQ H3G 1A6.
Due to severe allergies, the family requests that no flowers be sent to the funeral home.
Bette was a lifelong member of the United Church. Visitation will take place on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre (1969 Wyandotte St. E.,). The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 10:30 am at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Ann Rowsell. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens.
