Elsie was very artistic and expressed her talent through ceramics, knitting and painting. She found joy in reading with students from the local elementary schools. She was a champion dart player at the local Legion 157 and an honorary member. Elsie was a philanthropist and strongly supported the Hour Day Study Club, NorthStar Cultural Community Centre, Samaritans Purse, Kidney Foundation, only to name a few. She was also the secretary of The Crescendo Club, president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the North American Black Historical Museum and an activist for the black community.
At the age of 70 she acquired her driver’s license for the first time, and she never looked back. But her greatest love was for the BME Church, where she served as the treasurer, usher and secretary of the Church Aid Society.
The greatest attributes of Elsie, our mother, was that she was strong, courageous, fearless, and resilient. Some took her gentle quietness for weakness, but it was her greatest strength. She smiled in the face of adversity and endured pain and suffering with grace.
Rev. Thomas and Pastor Talbot remarked on her smile, beautiful countenance, and gentle spirit, and said she was truly and angel from Jesus.
Rest in peace gentle spirit, until we meet again...
