Ernie "Joe" Niemi

Beloved husband of Gail Niemi, son of Ernie and Ruby Niemi. Loving father of Jason and Leisa Niemi and late infant Andrew Niemi (1972). Loving grandfather of Taylor & Brandon. Great grandfather of Isaiah, Elijah and Avery. Dear brother of Ian Niemi and in-law's Diane Blazek, Lynn Bassi & late husband John of LaSalle, Barbara Smith & husband Harley of St. Catharines, Everett "Butch" Garrow & wife Patricia of Niagara Falls. Leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness, he will be missed by generations of nieces and nephews.

Joe began his Banking career in Windsor close to home at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and later across the river in Detroit. All the while an avid hockey player, he played in the local industrial leagues and was a sought after right winger who was later drafted to the American side with an academic scholarship by Detroit Bank and Trust. After which he retired and ran his own business as "The Tag Man" for many years.

Being an avid sportsman and member of the Windsor Sportsman's Club and Royal Canadian Legion Br. 255 he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting his entire life. Also a Grand Steward of the Trinity Arch Masons of Canada, he enjoyed volunteering as an Easy Rider for the Moramos Shriners for many years putting smiles on children's faces.

Those who knew him knew a very caring and compassionate person with a deep love for his wife and family and many animals who were their beloved pets over the years.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 10am-12pm at the Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue Windsor. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens. If desired, donations can be made to The Humane Society of Windsor & Essex County or to Street Help in Ernie's memory and would be appreciated by his family.
