We've known each other for more than 60 years since elementary school in DBS.  We'd lots of fun together like outing and camping in the high school. Kui-On was a great guy and will be long remembered, especially his smile.

How many wonderful memories we have of Lui and Margaret from our time living in Detroit! Our condolences and sincerest best wishes for Brian, Monica and family.

Jean and I would have known Lui for fifty years this coming Fall.

Lui never forgot his heritage and was always willing to discuss and express his indebtedness for the cultural richness that was his birthright.  He was a deep, patient, and humble man with the utmost integrity, who always had a twinkle in his eye to add to his quiet sense of humor, humor often touched with an air of mystery.

He will be remembered for his concern and support for the needs of the less fortunate.  Above all he will be  remembered for his love and dedication to family, especially his wife Margaret, son Brian, daughter-in-law Monica, grandchildren Aidan and Melody, and to his extended family throughout the world.

With Lui's death it would seem that we lost one of our best friends and mentors.  However, as I reflect on Lui's life, one never loses a true friend since we will always have his legacy which includes the meaning of love as well as memories of a life well lived.

Lui will be missed but never forgotten.

My wife and I are deeply saddened to hear about your huge loss and are sorry that, being out of the country currently, we cannot express to you in person our deepest condolences.

Your father and I were almost neighbours at the Faculty of Business Administration, when I started working at the University of Windsor in 1988. Over the years ,   my wife and I have cherished his sense of humour, his   wide knowledge of Chinese culture, philosophical approach to life and above all his steadfast friendship.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the Lui family. I was fortunate enough to be one of Dr. Lui's graduate assistants (88-89). He had a professional demeanor, but once I got to know him, I quickly realized that he also had a great sense of humour. Thinking of him brings back fond memories.

Brian - We will miss Lui, a wonderful friend.  He was a great listener, a man of few words--but his words were always worth hearing. We especially remember going with him to Dim Sum on our visits to Windsor. He took great care in selecting the perfect dishes for our special gathering. As an MBA student we all (Dr. Lui and class) went out for drinks at the old Grad House once. He tried to teach us some complex drinking game called "Lui Wins" - Guess how it always ended. 
I hope it brings a memory and a smile.

I want to share an anecdote I learned from my mother years ago.  When they were both teens, Uncle was a student at the Diocesan Boys School on the Kowloon side and mother and aunt were students at the True Light Girls School on the island side.  I think the cross harbor tunnel was not in place yet, so Uncle had to travel all the way by ferry to the island to visit his sisters and all the way back from time to time.  At that time, their source of financial support was from their grandfather, who lived in New York.  There was a time when their grandfather, for some reasons, was not happy with them and did not send them money.  My mother recalled that one night, uncle came to see her at the school, the two of them hungry and cold.  Uncle turned out his pockets and took out all the money he had (just a few cents actually) and split them between himself and my mother.  And with that few cents, my mother got herself a bag of crackers for dinner.  This was told by my mother years ago, and I never come to forget it.

And I also remember how Uncle and Aunt Margaret cared for me when I first arrived at Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1993.

Brian I am so sorry for your loss. I remember your mother & father walking by our house on Partington & then later on Rosedale when you were very young and we would stop & talk about our children; they were always so proud of you. Your parents were both such nice neighbors & you were always such a happy little boy - nice memories.
