Born in Chios, Greece, Maria immigrated to Canada in 1956, where she built a life rooted in family, dedication, and community.
She worked in the restaurant industry, where she met her beloved husband, Constantine “Gus” Spyropoulos, who predeceased her in 2010. They were married in 1957 and shared many wonderful years together.
Maria was a proud and devoted mother to her four children: Rita Bastounas (Pete), John (Kim), Nick (predeceased 2025), and Aspasia Lausch (John). She was a cherished grandmother to Steven Bastounas (Danielle) and Mary (Michalis Petridis) of Rhodes, Greece, and a loving great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.
A dedicated homemaker for many years, Maria later worked as a cook at Skippy’s. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church and generously gave her time volunteering at Greek festivals, where her warmth and spirit were felt by all.
In her retirement, Maria found great joy in tending to her gardens and spending time with neighbors on the porch, sharing stories, laughter, and companionship.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nasser and the staff at the Windsor Cancer Centre, as well as the staff at Regency Park, for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Windsor Cancer Foundation.
