Nelson Uten, born July 5th, 1942 at Windsor, Ontario, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026. Nelson was the beloved son of the late Frank and Rose Uten of Windsor, brother of the late Sharron (Norman) Zamczyk of Michigan and Darlene (Jeremy) Zimmerman of Connecticut. He was the uncle to Kathy Zamczyk, the late Dina (Erik) Linquest and Kent and Tad Zimmerman.
Nelson graduated from Patterson High School where he was “head boy” and continued his studies at Wayne State University. Nelson was involved in many Jewish Social Action causes, particularly Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry and helped both Soviet Jews and Ethiopian Jews settle in the Windsor area. He also continued his father’s legacy by working and eventually owning Frank’s Tire and Wheel in Windsor.
Nelson had lifelong friends in Karen Baseman Rosenzweig, Alan Jacks and family, Larry and Dana Horwitz and family, Gary Klein and family and his niece’s husband Erik Lindquist. Nelson made an impact on their lives that they will never forget. He had a constant thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader. His smile would light up any room he was in. He was caring, kind, compassionate and truly a real mensch. His love of Judiasm rounded out this wonderful man. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Age Care Royal Oak Kingsville where he lived the past few years would be appreciated, as well as any Jewish organization would be appropriate as well.
