You will be sorely missed my friend. You left us far too early. I will miss our engrossing discussions and your always-entertaining stories. You were always ready to help, and lend a hand whenever you could. Wish we had just one more time to hang out. You were never run of the mill... you were truly one of a kind.

To Rob's family and friends, my deepest condolences. Even though we didn't talk frequently, especially after I left Windsor, I always considered him a good friend. When I was living in Germany he came to visit for a week that turned into two. Twenty years later I still remember how much fun it was. I will miss his kindness, humour and intelligence.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I met Rob in 1995 at my 21st birthday party. He and some other guys decided absolutely I needed a cake. They walked to the 7/11 and bought a mix and baked for most of the party. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. Later, he helped my roommate with her photography portfolio for applying to schools. In Toronto, I ran into him over the years and we always had a great conversation. You were my first best-friend, my first non-family "family member", and the first person who I immediately felt a lifelong connection to, despite only hanging (every week) for 2 years. My cats adored you - we spent so many nights together just laughing and talking, watching documentaries and swapping records …  you brought Layla food all the time and snuggled with Billie to make me smile. You were so incredibly generous and kind to me and Aidan. You saved my life, in so many ways, and are one of the most precious gifts I've ever received in the form of such a strong, comforting, hilarious, and loving friendship. your heart was a legend

Rob was a truly remarkable person with a huge capacity for connection. He was so smart with a speedy brain and a gift for gab that made far reaching conversations a joy. Rob introduced me to political theorist playing cards, generously ignoring the fact that i didn't know who half of them were, and still made it fun. His walk around chats at work left everyone feeling lighter and cooler and sometimes smarter.  For a man who walked the edge he also always brought a heartfelt connection to those more in the middle.  I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with this sweet smart complicated man. He is so missed.  My condolences to the Pinto family and Rob's dear friends.

Rob was one of a kind.  I had not seen him for years and we bumped into one another on the street in Toronto when I had moved there from Vancouver in 2011.  We quickly became friends again and it was a friendship that I valued very much.  Rob was kind, seriously funny and really, just an amazing human being.  I miss him very much.

I so admired and appreciated Rob's endless kindness, sharp mind and dry wit. He truly made my years working at CAMH more fun. He was a master of stealth arrivals--quietly showing up at office doors, coffee lines, or anywhere people were standing and chatting. He would say or mime something funny and make everyone laugh, brightening dull or mundane days.

Rob meant so much to so many people. I'm grateful to have known him and will never forget him.

When the world loses such an authentically kind, thoughtful, brilliant, and witty man, it leaves behind a space in many hearts that is so difficult to fill.  Rob was the most astute and sensitive soul, always seeing the best in every person he encountered. If anyone was struggling, he quietly made a difference in that person's life and was endlessly modest about the real impacts he made with those gestures of goodwill. He was blind to a person's stature; all were equal and worthy of a good hearted taunt, a measure of generosity and genuine respect. Smiles, laughs, cups of coffee, treats, or anything needed were doled out daily to everyone on his famous tours of the hallways at CAMH and beyond. Each one shockingly exact in their fulfillment of what you needed in that moment, even when you didn't know it. 

I will be forever grateful that the last three words I spoke to him were "thank you, Rob!" As modest as he was, I hope he left us knowing he was loved by so many.

Rest in peace, dear friend. I will never fully accept that you are gone....and so your legacy must continue by those whose lives you touched.

I am grateful for the way in which Rob enriched my life. I know few people who can connect deeply on a quick visit to a colleague's office, sharing brilliant reflections on his life and mine in some of the funniest and richest conversations I have ever had. Dearest Laura and the rest of Rob's family, I could never find the words to express how shocked and devastated I am. Rob was the gentlest most generous person I know. I'll never forget how he insisted on giving me the microwave oven he received as a wedding present when I mentioned mine had stopped working. No matter what was going on in our lives or at work we always managed to make each other laugh. Laughter and kindness is what I will remember most and always about this beautiful person.
