Barbara Jane Becker

Peacefully, following a brief illness, it is with sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Jane at home with her family by her side on May 26, 2026 at 78 years of age.

She will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband Theodore (Ted) Arnold Becker, daughters Heather Becker (Daryn Sherlow) and Jennifer Schneider, and grandchildren Kadence Schneider and Zachary Schneider. She was predeceased by her parents James and Catherine Graham and granddaughter Emryss Schneider.

Barb’s greatest joy in life came from being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Over the years she had many hobbies, including a great love of animals, raising and showing many cats and dogs. She is survived by her beloved beagle Molly.

Barb also loved to write and at the age of 42 she returned to high school and completed her diploma. She then went on to study and earn a BA degree in English Linguistics at the University of Winnipeg and presented papers nationally and internationally. She later participated in many writing groups and facilitated a creative writing workshop for seniors. From that, she compiled and published several anthologies of her student’s short stories in a series of books called “Measured Words”. Barb also had a fascination with learning about her genealogy and became an active member of the Manitoba Genealogical Society.

Special thanks to the teams at Winnipeg Access West, Cancer Care Manitoba and Community Palliative Care whose exceptional care enabled Barb to remain at home for her final days.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 8th, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd in Winnipeg, MB, followed by Reception at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Humane Society.
