Carla (nee Jensen) Dunphy

Carla was born in August 1931 in Atwater, Saskatchewan, to Henry and Thomine (Christiansen) Jensen. She was raised on the Jensen family farm, where she developed the strong family values, quiet determination, and practical skills that remained with her throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Thomine Jensen; her brothers Tommy, Walter, and Carl; her sister Mary; and her beloved husband, Jim Dunphy.

Carla is lovingly remembered by her sister, Lillian (Archie); her sons, Don (Cathy) Brent and Sonny; her daughter, Sharon; her 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter; her many nieces and nephews—Paula and Bruce; Gloria and Glenda; Debbie, Kenton, and Corrina; and Graham and Glenn—along with extended family and many dear friends.

In 1950, Carla moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she built a successful career. She worked at several positions, including seven years with an insurance agency, before joining Business Furnishings where she met Jim. There she spent 32 years in the accounting department, retiring in 1994 after a career marked by dedication, professionalism, and loyalty.

Before her marriage, Carla enjoyed an active and independent life. Sundays were often spent attending her Lutheran church and visiting her sister Mary, her nieces Gloria and Glenda, and her brother Carl in Winnipeg. She also enjoyed travelling with her sister Lillian, including memorable Greyhound bus trips to Banff and the Rocky Mountains. Carla remained devoted to her entire Jensen family.

In 1975, Carla married Jim Dunphy and happily embraced a ready-made family. She welcomed Jim's sons, Don, Brent and Sonny, and his daughter, Sharon, into her heart as her own.

Carla and Jim built a wonderful life together filled with love, family, and shared interests. They spent 42 happy years camping at Chesley's Resort, where weekends were filled with relaxation, laughter, friendships, and countless treasured memories.

They also shared a love of hockey. For many years they faithfully attended games to cheer on their son Brent, and later their grandson Mitchell. They rarely missed an opportunity to support them, taking great pride in watching them play and celebrating their accomplishments.

Christmas was especially meaningful to Carla. Before her marriage, she faithfully returned each year to the Jensen family farm to celebrate Christmas Eve with her parents, Thomine and Henry, and her brothers Walter and Carl and sister Lillian. Those family gatherings remained among her happiest memories.

After marrying Jim, Carla and Jim created their own cherished family traditions. Holiday celebrations at the Dunphy home became special occasions enjoyed by family and friends. Their home was always warm and welcoming, filled with wonderful meals, laughter, conversation, and lasting memories for everyone who gathered there.

Carla was exceptionally creative and talented. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter who lovingly made Barbie clothes for her nieces and handcrafted many thoughtful Christmas gifts for family members.

An avid gardener, Carla took great pride in her beautiful flowers and gardens, finding peace and happiness while tending them along with Jim. She was also an excellent cook whose meals brought family together around the table. Her home canning and pickling became family favourites and were enjoyed by generations for many, many years.

Proud of her Danish heritage, Carla treasured her family's roots. In the summer of 1968, she travelled to Denmark with her parents to visit many cousins and her beloved Aunt Dora ("Faster Dora"), a journey that remained one of her most treasured memories.

Carla was a woman of quiet strength, unwavering faith, kindness, wisdom, and optimism. She never sought the spotlight but led by example through her gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast love for her family. Whether she was sewing a special gift, tending her garden, preserving the harvest, camping with Jim, cheering from the hockey stands, or welcoming loved ones into her home for the holidays, Carla found joy in caring for others and making them feel loved.

She will be remembered as the quiet matriarch of the Jensen and Dunphy families—a woman whose life was defined not by grand gestures but by countless acts of love, generosity, and devotion. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created, the values she shared, and the many lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
