June 15, 1912 – March 12, 2014
It is with deep sadness that we announce that on March 12, 2014 Catherine Park peacefully passed away at the age of 101.
Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gaylene and Trevor, son-in-law, Fred, grandchildren, Charlene (Doug), Kevin (Toni), and Tanya, and great grandchildren Matthew, Hailey. Anna, Hunter, and Heidi.
Catherine immigrated to Canada with her family from Scotland and spent her youth growing up in a farming community in Saltcoats, SK. She moved to Winnipeg to pursue a career in Nursing where she met, married, and started a family with her predeceased husband Frank Park.
Catherine spent her life devoted to her family and her profession of caregiving. She personally cared for her husband Frank when he became very ill while raising her children Gaylene and Trevor. She attributed her ability to perseverance to her family, friends, and faith.
Once Catherine retired, she had many adventurous travels in North America and abroad with her family and siblings that she treasured. With all of her travel, her greatest travel trip was always a road trip back to the farm in Saltcoats, SK. to reunite with her family.
With passion and a purpose, Catherine volunteered for the Rosedale church for over 30 years providing assistance and visits to people in the community. She was actively involved with her grandchildren and supported them in their academics and sports. In addition to caregiving and travel, she also loved curling, hockey, gaming, and music.
After an injury at the age of 96, Catherine was determined to celebrate her 100th birthday and persevered against all odds. We believe that her interest and curiosity in everything that was going on with her family, friends, as well as world events kept her young beyond her years. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a remarkable woman who approached life with courage, strength, and determination.
She made everyone in her life feel like they were special and supported them with her love, encouragement, and generosity.
It meant a great deal to her and the family for the extra attention that Joanne Gilberton, Rick and Wendy Park, as well as all of the staff at Tuxedo Personal Care Home provided for her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:30 am at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave, with Rev. Janet Walker presiding.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the CNIB or Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
