With deep sorrow, we announce the unexpected passing of Clinton Wood, age 63, on Thursday, March 8th, 2018. Woody will be lovingly remembered, and dearly missed, by his wife of 38 years, Carol, sons Colin (Tracy), and Cameron, brother Derek (Heather) and family, numerous friends, and business associates.Clint was born on April 8th1954 to parents Lionel and Helen Wood (both deceased). He grew up in North Kildonan, attending Springfield Heights School and graduating from River East Collegiate.
He attracted many friends with his happy, out-going personality and was famous for spinning a great tale, which kept all in attendance, rolling with laughter. Clint’s career path first led him to northern Manitoba, working in the Inco mine at Thomson then to Gillam working for Manitoba Hydro on the Long Spruce dam project. He went to positions in manufacturing with Boeing Canada, Temro Industries and Monarch Industries, and lastly as a Corporate Director of Health and Safety with Hazco/CCS/Tervita. He often spoke of all the interesting people he had encountered during his years of employment and considered himself very lucky to have made so many friends. You can take the man from the job, but you can’t take the job from the man. Shortly after he settled into retirement, he set up ”Quicksilver Safety”. This was his special endeavour. It was just to keep him busy but soon became a fulltime commitment that he thoroughly enjoyed right up until his passing. Woody and Carol made North Kildonan their home where they raised their family. This led him to become a dedicated volunteer at the Gateway Community Centre, coaching softball and hockey, holding various executive positions, organizing carnival events, as well as being instrumental in the planning and fundraising to help make the indoor arena a reality. Woody also spent several years involved with River East Minor Hockey Association in various roles. Watching kids develop their hockey and softball skills brought him great joy. However, Thursday nights were reserved for curling with the guys at the West St. Paul Curling Club. All his life, Woody spent his weekends and summers at the family cottage (Ingolf). He was able to build a new cottage for his family, on the highest point on Long Pine Lake. He would always marvel at the "million dollar view" from the cottage, looking down the length of the lake. He and Carol had spent the summers there since their retirement, hosting special weekends, for both young and old. This was his happy place. The family would like to thank all the paramedics, nurses, doctors and support staff for all the wonderful care that was provided.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, April 14th at 2pm at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy.
