Darlene is lovingly remembered by her sons, Gary Monkman (partner Darren Derksen, and son Mason Buchner-Monkman) and Jeff Monkman (wife Denise Monkman, and son Barrett Monkman). She was predeceased by her daughters, Holly Monkman and Keri-Lynn Monkman, and by her sister, Linda Keller. Darlene is survived by her sister, Lorna Vledder (husband Bert Vledder), and her grandsons Aiden and Brody.
Darlene devoted her early years to raising her children at home before entering the workforce. She later developed a career as an activity worker, and was proud of her work and the connections she made throughout her career—enriching the lives of seniors in St. Vital with care, patience, and a steady kindness.
Darlene was an active member of the United Church since she was a child in Dauphin, and she continued to be an active member at Meadowood United Church, participating in various activities and valuing the community and friendships she found there.
In her personal time, Darlene was a passionate crafter who loved creating and knitting for others. She also enjoyed gardening and took pride in decorating her yard with flowers and lights, creating a welcoming outdoor space for entertaining—or simply for quiet moments of her own. Above all, Darlene cherished time with her family. Her grandchildren were her true joy, and she loved spending as much time with them as she could.
Darlene will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Her love, kindness, and gentle spirit touched so many lives, and she will be remembered always. Though she is no longer with us, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
Please join us as we gather to remember the life of Darlene Monkman on July 11, 2026, at Meadowood United Church on Dakota Street, 1111 Dakota St., Winnipeg, MB. Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow.
