She grew up in Winnipeg's North End where she excelled at academics at Faraday School. She enjoyed Ukrainian music and playing violin. She graduated from St. Johns High School where she excelled at sports. Debra was called to the Manitoba Bar after attending the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. Her career lead to working as an policy analyst with Canada Life Insurance.
She enjoyed camping at Cherry Hill Estates near Steinbach, with her family and her beloved dogs Coco, Bailey, Brandy, and most recently adopted, Joy. Many wonderful memories will be cherished from time spent with Debra at the lake.
Debra had a passion for helping others as a long time member of the Winnipeg A.A community. She loved supporting others thru sponsorship and attending meetings with countless friends. Her decades of Sobriety inspired many, and her family was extremely proud of her accomplishments. Debra lived her life on her own terms. She was a central figure in her family and circle of friends, and her passing will leave a void in the lives of many.
Debra was the oldest of five siblings, and took on a Motherly role of looking after the others. This carried on her entire life caring for her sister Janice, who had many difficult times dealing with MS. Debra was always available to us in any matter whether it be guidance or support or the not so occasional argument at the Hospital. She was not just our sibling, she was our surrogate mom and best friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS society of Manitoba or Darcy's Animal Rescue Center.
The family would like to thank all Physicians and staff at GH6, Health Sciences Centre. Your care and compassion was greatly appreciated.
