

DENNIS PATRICK LOWEDECEMBER 16, 1935 – AUGUST 23, 2009It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Patrick Lowe on August 23, 2009.Mourning his loss are his wife Rene of 49 years, daughters Amy (and her partner Gordon) and Carol and his son Ian Jeffery.Dennis was born in Quorn, England and in his teenage years he first got involved with music by learning to play the drums. At the age of 19 he started his two year service with 17 Troop Royal Signals. As a young adult he was involved with the scouts and later became the leader of the venture scouts where he was also a singer in a group called the "Shelmaliers". He worked with British Telecommunications until he immigrated to Canada in 1968 with his wife and two daughters. Dennis worked for over 20 years at Red River Community College, first teaching Electronics and continuing on as a Media Consultant also instructing the Media Production Technician Course in the evenings.In the late seventies he started a business called Simlow Productions which focused on producing slide presentations. When his daughters graduated it became Media One Productions.Dennis was a volunteer with Manisphere and a volunteer director when it became known as the Red River Exhibition. His involvement spanned 25 years. His other volunteer interests included working with 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, traveling with them as press photographer to Germany, on a Cyprus peace keeping mission, to Wainright and Resolute Bay. He was involved with the Kiev and Emerald Isle Pavilion for Folklorama and as the sound engineer for the Irish Tavern Singers. He also traveled to Georgetown, Guyana for a few months where he taught a Hinterland Audio Visual course with O.C.O.D.( Organization for Cooperation in Overseas Development). His other involvements include the ANAVETS Unit 283 as part of a colour party and the Navy League of Canada Cadets RCSCC Crusadors.Dennis had a passion throughout his lifetime for music and after he retired he was deeply involved with the Nostalgia Radio Station CKVN and CJML 58 airing his own program called the "British Connection".A memorial service was held Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:00am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba.The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba for the kindness and care they have given us.In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 1160-675 McDermot Ave Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9.
