Donald is loving remembered by his wife of 62 years Jane, son Gary, daughter in law Sherry, and one and only granddaughter Taylor Dawn. He was predeceased by daughter Lori, father Neil, mother Vivian, brother Ken, sister Marion and infant brother Ian.
Donald resided in North Kildonan for over 50 years. He had an expansive career with the City of Winnipeg for 35 years as a police officer. He was a Grey Owl golf Committee member and honorary member.
The number one passion in Donald’s life was always his family, putting them far above all else. He and his wife Jane were constant companions always doing everything together. Donald was a perfect husband and role model for his kids and granddaughter, and he never missed a sporting event in which they played. He coached and volunteered his time with many endeavors. Jane was the love of his life for 65 years, until seventeen years ago when his only grandchild Taylor was born. The two had an amazing and special bond the instant she was born. Taylor was an absolute star in his eyes and brought incredible joy and happiness to him in his last years. Donald never missed a hockey practice or game until recently when Parkinson’s disease made it tough for him to attend.
Don was an extremely kind, honest, patient and honorable man always seeing good in people no matter what background they came from. He was very generous and giving to many charities over the years.
A service of remembrance for Donald will be held at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway on Wednesday June 27, 2018 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Donald’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Parkinson Canada.
