It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Dorothy Palmer (née Fisher), on June 3, 2026, at the age of 84.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Henry Dueck, as well as her parents, Henry and Miranda Fisher; her sisters, Monica and Carmen; and her brother, Audie. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Karlene (Beresford), Kensley (Lisa), Darin (Tanya), and Megon (David). She was a cherished grandmother to Shalla, Anthony (Brooke), Alyssa (Simon), Keith, Tyler (Montaine), Mason, and great-grandson Carter.
She is also survived by her siblings Icilda, Septy, Dahlia, and Edna, and will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born on July 23, 1941, in St. Thomas, Jamaica. In 1972, she immigrated to Canada, driven by her desire to provide her children with greater opportunities. She devoted nearly 40 years of service as a Health Care Aide – Unit Assistant at the Health Sciences Centre, where she found her work both rewarding and meaningful.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy’s strong religious beliefs guided her throughout her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and spent time volunteering in the church's Outreach Mission. Dorothy also generously gave her time volunteering with various organizations and churches, including Folklorama and ACAM.
Dorothy had a great love of sports and could often be found cheering from the sidelines as her children and grandchildren played. She also enjoyed watching baseball, hockey, tennis, and curling, and was a proud and dedicated Winnipeg Blue Bombers season ticket holder for 40 years.
Dorothy also found great joy in gardening. She took pride in tending to her flowers and growing her own vegetables. It brought her great joy to share her fresh vegetables with her family and friends.
Dorothy will be remembered for her warm smile, her strength, her unwavering love for family and friends, and the joy she brought into every room she entered. Though she will be deeply missed, we celebrate a life filled with purpose, love, and countless cherished memories.
Rest peacefully, our beautiful and loving mother, mama, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. We love you dearly and will miss you always. May you find eternal peace as one of God’s angels.
A funeral service will be held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with viewing beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Interment: Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors, and care staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Victoria Hospital, Grace Hospital, and Luther Home for the compassion and care they provided.
