I met Drew my first year working at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate as the life skills teacher. A number of my students with disabilities were having a bake sale/draw to raise money for an Best Buddy event after school on a report card or open house night. Not many people were buying anything but then suddenly Drew and his family approached. What stood out for me was that night was how Drew warmly greeted the students sitting behind the table and lingered to make conversation and buy something. I just remember as he walked away how happy the kids were that he and his family had bought something but also the genuine warmth, kindness and charisma he exuded. It was a short interaction but so lasting that while I did not know him well I felt I knew his character as someone kind and caring. Moving forward he would say hi/smile whenever I saw him. It was a simple kind act that made a lasting impression. May you know that Drew left heart prints of love, compassion and kindness with so many people if only for a moment in time. May this comfort you today and always.

Drew was one of those students I always thought of with a smile. As a teacher, you come across young people that have that sparkle in their eye and smile in their face. You know they will make life better for those who cross their paths. You will be sorely missed.

Drew was an incredible man, especially when you think about how passionate he was for everything in life. The drive he had is something I wish I saw more of in others.

In school, Drew was one of the first people I could connect with when I changed schools because he was so welcoming. He had a sense of humour that was completely unique to him. I remember our homeroom teacher saying she was scared of big dogs, so Drew took it upon himself to hide under her desk and bark when she sat down. Singlehandedly the best memory I had at Arthur Day Middle School.

I cannot imagine the pain you are going through Jay and April, please know Drew was as you said, a ray of light in so many lives. I am so proud to have met Drew and consider him a friend that will always be with me.

April, I didn't ever get the pleasure to meet Drew but was lucky enough to have you to tell me about him. Everytime you spoke of him you beamed with joy. You are an amazing mom who raised 3 unbelievable children. I look at the pictures of your family vacations and see how much you loved him and how much he loved you especially redoing that photo shoot from when he was a baby. Not many kids would do that lol. He came in this world and made you a mother but you worked hard everyday learning as you went and became a mom, and a leader and guided him in the right direction. Im so sorry for your loss I can not imagine how hard this must be for you and your entire family. All I can say is from everything I know about him he was loved by everyone that met him because of how he was raised, he was raised to be caring loving and accepting of everyone.
Im always here for you I love you and please if you need anything call me. I Love you april. I have your entire family in my thoughts while you piece this all together and try to get passed this. Just know he loved you all as much as you loved him. Xoxo. Cara

April and Jamey,
I remember the day Drew was born and visiting you both in the hospital...he was perfect in every way and you, April, became a mom. That is a moment I will always cherish. It has been pretty amazing watching you raise your beautiful family...even if it was mostly through Facebook. Drew had an impact on the world we all knew, most 21 year olds have barely touched. He will be remembered for his charismatic smile, listening ear and heart that was bigger than life. The year 2020 has certainly taken away a lot from us, but it will never take away our close to our heart memories. We love you Baker Family!
Love from Will and Shauna Wear (Brisley)
