It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dad, Edward Mann. Edward was born and raised in Winnipeg and was the youngest of four children to Victor James Mann and Catherine Mary (nee Collins). Edward attended St. Ignasius and St. Paul's High School before graduating from the University of Manitoba.
Edward was a born educator and he began his teaching career in 1958 at Edmond Partridge Elementary School before moving to Pembina Crest and finally Vincent Massey Collegiate. Teaching English was his passion and as head of the English department he impacted and inspired the lives of hundreds of young people. Edward retired from Vincent Massey in 1991.
In 1955 Edward and Joan were married and had five children. Edward devoted his life to his family and friends, and he touched the lives of many through his selfless acts, community service and charitable donations. Edward gave hundreds of hours of his time to the church, schools, the Red Cross, the community gardens, and 20 years as a volunteer completing income tax returns. Helping others is what defined him.
For Edward, family was the most important thing in his life. After his annual tenure teaching summer school, he led the family on camping trips with Banff and Riding Mountain being the top picks. He shared his love of canoeing, ice fishing, hunting and gardening with his children and instilled endless life lessons that are carried to this day. Edward was a favorite uncle to quite a few and celebrating large family gatherings and milestones brought him much joy and comfort. His home and heart was always open and welcoming to everyone.
In 2022, after 67 years of marriage, Joan passed away. Edward was also pre-deceased by his sons, Kenneth in 1995 and Edward in 2005. He is lovingly survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Bob), Andrea (Neil), and Kate (Darryl), in addition to his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Lauren, Liam, Jacob, Erin and Brooke. A funeral mass for immediate family and close friends will take place on October 26, 2026. Following the funeral, internment will take place at 2:00pm at St. Mary's Cemetery, 520 Osborne St. Anyone wishing to attend the Internment is warmly welcome to do so. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Misericordia Place for the compassionate care our dad received.
