It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Egidio Fernando Greco, who passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital on April 3, 2026, at the age of 91.
Egidio will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 63 years, Stella, and by his children, Palmira, Maria (Colin), and Pasquale (Arlisa). He was a proud and cherished Nonno to his four grandchildren, Isabella, Jessica, Rachael, and Niccolo, who brought him immense joy and pride.
He is survived by his sister Maria De Grazia, his brother Michele (Fenice) of Toronto, and numerous nieces and nephews in both Canada and Italy. Egidio was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Palmira Greco; his brothers, Raffaele and Antonio; and his sisters, Fenice and Eugenia.
Born on November 24, 1934, in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy, Egidio immigrated to Winnipeg in 1953 in pursuit of a better life. Through hard work, dedication, and quiet strength, he built a life rooted in family, love, and perseverance. A man of gentle nature and few words, Egidio expressed his love through his actions—steady, dependable, and always present.
One of his greatest pleasures was working in his vegetable garden. He took deep pride in tending the soil, planting, and nurturing his vegetables from seed to harvest. Gardening was more than a hobby for Egidio; it was a reflection of who he was—patient, disciplined, and generous. He found joy in sharing the fruits of his labour with family and friends, always happiest when others enjoyed what he had grown. A man of faith, Egidio drew comfort and strength from his Roman Catholic beliefs throughout his life. His greatest happiness, however, came from spending time with his grandchildren, happily spoiling them and proudly embracing his role as their “Nonno.”
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Grace Hospital for their compassionate care and support.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with condolences beginning at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow the Mass. Interment will take place at Thomson "In the Park" Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Pasquale Greco, Colin Pewarchuk, Gerhard Peters, Will Christie, Colin Chura and George Reis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
Riposa in Pace.
