It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elden Wittmier on October 29, 2025, following a brief battle with periampullary cancer, at the age of 71
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Diane; his daughter, Krista (Mike); his son, Kurtis (Teresa); his mother, Elva; his sisters, Karen (Tom), Anita (Dennis), and Holly (Kevin); his brother, Marcel (Tammy); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Clifford.
Elden grew up among the rolling farmlands of the Swan River Valley, where he learned to drive a tractor at just six years old and discovered the value of hard work and perseverance. At 17, he left his beloved hometown to make his way in the world. He began framing houses in Calgary, later returning to Winnipeg to work as a mechanic before moving into sales—everything from Amway to insurance—while attending business college at Herzing. In 1978, he joined Lawton Partners Financial, where he built a lifelong career and, in truth, never really retired. Elden loved what he did and cherished the people he worked with.
He met his wife, Diane, through a mutual friend, and the two quickly fell in love—engaged within six months and married in 1975. Together, they shared nearly 50 wonderful years, raising two adored children, several cats (and “grandcats”), and a lifetime of adventures.
An explorer at heart, Elden loved to travel. His work and family took him to places like Maui, India, Monte Carlo, Arizona, and throughout Europe. He was never one to sit still—always puttering in the garage, at the lake, with his cars, or around the house. His greatest joys were his family, his cars, a good scotch or red wine, fishing, and time at the lake. Ever the dreamer, he also loved to fly; he joined a hang-gliding club in his 40s and always hoped to earn his pilot’s license.
A service to celebrate Elden’s life will be held on November 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the palliative care team at St. Boniface Hospital and the oncology team at Victoria Hospital for their compassion and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Elden’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
