Elizabeth McCormick Ferguson

Elizabeth McCormick Ferguson passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 90.

Mom was born in 1936 in Port Glasgow, Scotland. Her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Duffy were blessed with 11 children. Mom is survived by one sister, Bridie McGonigle and predeceased by parents Joseph and Elizabeth and sisters Vera, Mary, Patricia, Matilda, along with her brothers Hughie, Frank, Joseph, James and Johnny, along with our beloved dad Thomas Ferguson.

In the early days, mom was baptized at The Monk Church and attended primary school at The Monk School, and then attended high school at St. John's. She worked at several locations in Scotland, including Gourock Ropeworks, and then she and her sisters worked at The Roadhouse as serving staff for many years.

Mom then met the love of her life, Thomas Ferguson. They were married at the Holy Family Church and soon were blessed with 3 children: Ann, Thomas, and Frank.

After several years, our grandparents, Thomas and Annie Ferguson immigrated to Canada. We as a young family followed suit and came to Canada in 1969. Coming from a milder climate in Scotland, we soon discovered and were shocked to realize what winter in Canada was really like. We had never experienced cold temperatures like that in our lives but we soon acclimated to our new home Canada.

Mom worked in the St.James Hotel at Carmello's Restaurant for over 30 years until she retired. Carmello was the owner and was Italian, and with mom and Aunt Sandra and another friend Theresa who were all Scottish, needless to say there was always a bit of a language barrier which always resulted with laughter.

To say mom brought smiles to people is an understatement. As most of our friends can attest, they simply could not understand what she was saying and would just smile.

Mom was blessed with 3 grandsons: John, Cole and Jaxon. She loved them with all her heart, and loved spending time with them and spoiling them all when they were little.

One of mom's favourite things to do was to play bingo with her friends and family, Aunt Sandra Duffy, Cathy and Jackie. She also loved her weekly Saturday outings with Joyce, Jessie and Sandy to the casino.

To all who knew mom, we will miss her greatly, but we as a family feel great comfort in the fact that she is now finally reunited with our dad Thomas.

We would like to thank all our family in Scotland, especially her sister, our Aunt Bridie McGonigle for all her prayers, love, flowers and words of encouragement during this difficult time.

Thank you to all our friends and family here in Canada for all your love and support, and we would also like to thank our Aunt Sandra Duffy and Stephen Duffy for being with us daily at the hospital over the last 3 weeks.

Mom's heart truly belonged to "Bonnie Scotland".

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Church, 271 Hampton St, Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 29, 2026, at 10:00 am.

A Graveside Service will take place at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 29, 2026, at 11:30 am followed by a reception at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
