Mom was born and raised in Winnipeg to Ethel and James Irving. She married and raised a family of her own in East Kildonan, residing there for over 30 years. She was a long time employee of the Hudson Bay Company, in downtown Winnipeg and later St. Vital stores where many lifetime friendships were formed.
Mom was inherently proud of her rich Scottish and British ancestry proudly displaying the family Buchanan Coat of Arms. She always enjoyed a good cup of tea prepared the proper English way. Mom also enjoyed square dancing, the outdoors and spending time with friends and family at the cottage at Long Lake.
Mom will be missed by her son Mark (Donna), daughter Gail (Vance), eight grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Betty also leaves behind additional extended family and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her husband George in 1985, son Leonard in 2017 (Zenny), and brother James in 1998 (Joyce).
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Concordia Place for Mom’s care. The caring, kindness and affection they demonstrated during her time with them allowed Mom to think of Concordia Place as her home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Betty’s memory to Concordia Foundation (please specify Concordia Place) or The Canadian Diabetes Association.
