Mrs. Eunice Esther Band

15 October, 193028 July, 2020

It is with heavy hearts, the family announces the passing of Eunice Esther Band on Weinberg 2 at the Simkin Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Eunice had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and education, and drank deeply from the cup of life. Widely read, she loved poetry, the arts and nature. She was spiritual and held her faith in the Lord with a strong, quite confidence. She led a long, rich and rewarding career as a professional nurse. Always giving, she was bright, beautiful and generous. She loved and was dearly loved by her family and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, relatives and acquaintances. She was thoughtful, kind and gracious - a fierce fighter for social justice and the underdog. She had a sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour. She loved to laugh - especially with her sisters. She touched many lives with her intelligence and her charm. She will be sorely missed.

John 15:12-13 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”

Aunt Eunice holds a special place in my heart. My life has been so full of visits or calls with her. As a teenager i travelled yearly to Manitoba by Greyhound to Winnipeg then up north to the farms. She welcomed me as if i was coming home; part of the family. I would always stay a day or two. Breakfast was laid out for me as she left for work at the Hospital early. Later on with the motorcycle i would make a stop either westward or eastward. Later on we talked on the phone to catch up on families and reconnect; more as a friend than as an Aunt. I fully appreciated her wit and sense of humour. I just wasn't ready for it at 6am sometimes!
She was kind and warm to me from the start and i loved her for it.

It’s been a long time since I saw Aunt Eunice in person. The last time was when I was visiting Manitoba. We met at a park near her home (my parents, Clara & kids, cousin Sandra) and had a lovely afternoon in the shade of the trees.

Aunt Eunice would pickup jeffry at the laureate and we were waiting for school to let out so she said let’s go for a walk. Never mind that it was 40 below in winter and I said ok but I had no hat, wasn’t going to loose face to Aunt Eunice so out we went for a walk. Took a long time to get over my frozen ears! Aunt Eunice you were so special and one of a kind.
