Mr. Francesco (Frank) Guzzi

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Francesco (Frank) Guzzi on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the age of 80 years. Dad will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Maria, his son Frank (Connie Russo), and grandsons David and Stefan.

Dad will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers, Romano (Joy) in Winnipeg, Giovanni (Rosanna) in Italy; sisters Antonia in Montreal, and Concetta, Maria (Gennaro), Lucia, Betti (Tonino), and Amalia in Italy; brothers-in-law Emilio (Sara) Abuisi, Mario Anastasio, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins in Winnipeg, Montreal and Italy.

Dad is predeceased by his son Giacomino (Jack) Guzzi in 1979, his parents Francesco and Angela Guzzo, brother Tomasso Guzzi and his wife Elisa, brothers-in-law Beniamino Tallarico, Alfonso Bruni, sister-in-law Giacomina Anastasio, and nephew Marco Guzzo.

Dad was born on June 2, 1932 in Miglierina, Calabria, Italy, and was the third child from a family of ten. As an independent young adult, Dad would learn his craft working with wood, and traveled and worked throughout southern Italy and in Milan. Dad immigrated to Canada in 1961, married Maria in June of that year, and raised his family in Winnipeg.

Dad worked for Akman & Sons Construction until 1984, and then at Lucien Custom Woodwork until his retirement in 1996. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends by assisting with various renovations or building projects.

After his retirement, Dad enjoyed traveling with family and friends, tending to his garden, and making wine. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family, telling stories of his youth and sharing his wisdom with his grandsons David and Stefan. Mom and Dad were always together and rarely did anything apart from each other. He had great love, care and concern for Mom. He was extremely proud of Frank, Connie, and his grandsons. Family and friends were always important to him.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff on 4 South at the Victoria General Hospital for providing great comfort to Dad during his final month.

Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding, viewing in church began at 10:00 a.m. Entombment followed Mass in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St.

Active Pallbearers are Jack Abiusi, Danny Anastasio, James Anastasio, Tony Anastasio, Romano Guzzo Jr, and Ralph Masi. Honourary Pallbearer is Mark Russo.
