Suddenly, following a brief illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the death on December 11, 2016 of Geraldine (Gerry) Grundy, aged 77, of Winnipeg.
Gerry is survived by one nephew and numerous cousins and extended family members located not only in Winnipeg, but throughout Canada.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents, Rosalie Grundy (Drewrys), and William Albert Grundy, and her sister, Frances Labbus.
A longtime West Kildonan resident, Gerry was employed as a young woman just out of school by the Hudson Bay Company. Gerry enjoyed telling the story of how, newly hired, she naively told the recruiter that she intended to work for one year at Hudson Bay before going on to other things. In May of 2004, Gerry retired from the Hudson Bay Company with just short of 45 years of service. Ironically, much of that time was spent in Human Resources – employing untold numbers of men and women and training and mentoring many others. In her early years with the company, Gerry participated in many of the activities organized by and for its staff members. This included sports, bowling and curling, and various trips, including through areas of Europe.
Gerry took advantage of much of what Winnipeg had to offer in regards to music (symphony and opera), theatre (Manitoba Theatre Centre) and was a dedicated Jets and Bombers fan, loving to watch their games on television and cheer them on to victory.
In accordance with Gerry’s Wishes, a formal memorial service will not be held. Cremation has already taken place, and a private interment will be held at a later date.
Grateful thanks go out to the compassionate and caring staff members of the WRHA Home Care Division and the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg.
