On August 4, 2018 at the age of 97, went to share in the Resurrection with Jesus. Family members surrounded her with their love for several days previous. While grieving deeply, we rejoice that Mom’s pains are at an end and that she is in a place ‘where sorrow and suffering are no more but life eternal’.
“Allie” as she was affectionately known, is survived by son Murray (Diana); daughter Mary (Gary); and son Ian (Barbara). Allie was devoted to her nine grandchildren: Jonathan (Sara),
Lara, and Matthew (Lauren); Heidi(John), Nathan (Toni), and Benjamin (Jennifer); Charlotte (Jesse), Josiah(Alicia), and Abigail. She held her eight great-grandchildren in deep affection: Aimee, Natalie, Ella, Sophie, Noah, Hana, Joseph and Effie.
Allie is predeceased by her dear husband Ian, and her beloved parents Lancelot and Gertrude.
She was born in the West End of Winnipeg, after a short business career, Allie embraced her lifelong passion of marriage, family, and home-building. She raised her three children with an exquisite blend of kindness, creativity, humour, and above all unfailing love. She and Ian made their family home first in Fort Rouge and then in Fort Garry.
Allie is honoured not only by the above family members, but by friends of all ages, for her deep Christian commitment. Both at Bethesda Church and later at St. Aidan’s Anglican she was an icon of seeking to live her life in partnership with the living Christ. Both in her family and well beyond, she was a spiritual mentor to many young people. She was adept at bringing spiritual truths into the practical joys and sorrows of everyday life.
When Allie faced challenges in her life, she found the resources to deal with them in her relationship with God.
A Celebration of Allie’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 10, 2018 at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, Campbell and Kingsway.
A private family interment will follow the reception in the church basement.
The family would like to thank the following: the staff at the Rosewood for their kindness. No one could have given more generous and compassionate care than the second-floor staff at Poseidon Care Home, where Allie spent the final months of her life. Pastoral Visitors from St. Aidan’s provided Mom with spiritual nurture.
Donations may be made to the Union Gospel Mission, a ministry in which Mom was involved for many years. Contact information: gospelmission.ca
